scamp beneath one arm, cori padded from her bed, dorm-mates all a-slumber, and crawled via tunnel into the commons. It was quite early still, so early, in fact, that the circular windows above were still dark, but laced with that familiar glow that emanated each morn from the east. No doubt the sun was just beginning to brighten the horizon beyond the walls of hogwarts. she shot a flame into the fireplace, per usual, and curled up on the hearth, legs crisscrossed in her favorite jersey pajamas and robe. scamp circled and purred and finally nuzzled in for a nice massage. "you're spoiled, you know," she told him matter-of-factly, obliging his need to be pampered, her head tipped at an angle. 

Mornings were her favorite time of day. calm. new. full of possibility. up with the sun, cori could be alone with her thoughts - and that didn't happen very often at hogwarts. usually she magicked up a cup of tea and read by the fire until her housemates began to move about, but this morning she had an ulterior motive. with a glance behind her at the boy's dormitory entrance, then the girl's - just to ensure she was alone - cori accio'd a book from the bookshelf across the room. it was a quidditch book...and if she succeeded in anything at all this year, it would be to score a position on the house team.

no one yet knew as much, but she was a fair flyer - and she'd practiced quite a lot over the holiday - but gaining the nerve to actually audition was quite another thing. screwing up her face in concentration, she flipped through the pages until she came to the place she left off. being a fine flyer was one thing, but she would need to be confident in the technicalities before she would ever dare grace quidditch selections. competing for attention, scamp raised and rubbed needfully across her hand two, three times, nearly dislodging the book. cori threw back her head and growled. "go find a mouse, will you? this is important. you've had your rub - Shoo."
