He really just felt the pain upon waking up. He had a bit of it on his face, and one of his arms, but it was nothing that really stood out to him. Riley tried to think where he was and what was going on, and slowly. Very slowly, he was remembering. It was the party. The attack. His eyes opened with a force. With a jolt he sat up, ignoring the sharp pain in his stomach and looked around him. What happened? He thought immediately to the girl he left out there. Or must've he hoped she'd gotten back ok, what if they found her? He lead her there. He was responsible for that. If they found her, and hurt her, he was the one that told her to hide there. Then his friend by the fire, his book that she used to lure him there and he'd left her there to get alone time. The fourth year he'd tried to help did he get hit? He knew he was surrounded, it was a fools errand but Riley had to try. All these people and more, hurt, possibly killed? Riley felt sick. He wanted everyone to be alright. But the motion of sitting caught up with him and the light headedness forced his head back to the pillow. Riley put an arm to his head.

She didn't listen. She never did. He didn't come back and she decided to take matters into her own hands. If these were the people she thought they were, they wouldn't touch her...and they didn't. Devyn found him quickly, unconscious and pale. What happened after that had become a blur...and here she was. In a cold infirmary filled to the brim with students and curtains around occupied beds. Curled up in a chair with a blanket, she had dozed off. The cut on her head ached occasionally, but she refused treatment. People had died...people had been badly injured. She hadn't heard him sit up, but she heard his body make contact with the bed again. Blinking her eyes open, she sat up, pulled the blanket around her shoulders before sitting next to him on the bed. What was personal space? "Hey," she croaked, looking down at her hands. "He lived... she murmured. "The fourth year. He just got released." The cat ears and outfit had been discarded for an oversized hoodie and leggings. Converse donned her little feet and surprisingly, not a spot of dark makeup was on her face. Pursing her lips, she looked back up to him. "Do you want me to get the nurse for you or something?" Devyn was avoiding bringing up how she got out safe. "Winnie is okay, too." She didn't know what the relationship was between them, but it didn't hurt to bring it up.

She looked at him, and sat beside him on the bed. Riley drank in her appearance before croaking, "Hi," He said quietly, looking her over and thinking why she was there. He was momentarily relieved to see her. "You're alright." He said but at the same moment she continued talking, so his words hushed mid sentence. The recognition slowly registered in his mind as she continued speaking. the boy was alright. That was great. He let out a breath nodding at the information but spoke once she finished with a small smile. "Thank you." A half-smiled crossed his lips and he shook his head. "No, let her attend to other people." His eyes looked at her, "You're alright though, they didn't find you?" The realization that she knew about the boy not occurring just yet. He just figured that she would have heard it. Or didn't think of it at all.

Devyn's eyes wandered over his face, relieved that he was looking much better than when she last saw him. "You're alright." A small smile appeared on her face at his words; nodding slightly. "I'm okay...just a few scratches." She felt guilty. She was sure that she was going to have word vomit at any minute. Despite how she was feeling, she remained calm and cordial. "You don't have to thank me. Really," she grinned slightly, looking to her hands. Unfortunately, that was the time he decided he wanted her to not get the nurse and ask her what happened. "I, um..." Dev bit her lip before looking up at him. "No, they did." Rephrase. "Well, I found them...and you..." She couldn't look at him. "I knew they wouldn't hurt me...well, I was banking on them not hurting me. You never came back, I wasn't going to leave you there to die." Letting out a small breath, she looked over to him again. "I'm fine. Nothing happened, they didn't touch you again." Whether she'd be punished or not was an entirely different topic.

The smile that was found on her face that appeared after his words made him smile. It was weak, on his part, of course, but he was trying. He wanted to show the girl that all was fine, despite the injuries. She looked down to her hands and he watched her carefully waiting on the response that would provide him with answers of the area of the fight that he did not see. After all, Riley lasted long enough to be surrounded, and was entirely lucky to get out the way that he had. It surprised him, actually, to know that he was alive at that moment. But the words she began to speak, he did not comprehend. "You...found them?" He asked with a quiet whisper. Then he looked at her sharply, "I asked you to stay. You were in no position to go after me." He furrowed his brow, feeling worry for her arise. But he hushed, feeling gratitude for her saving him. He let out a breath and pursed his lips, reaching quietly for her hand. "Thank you for your help." He owed her something, probably his life, therefore he tried to keep down his temper for her not listening. But what right did he have to give her orders anyway?

This is why she drank. This is why she smoked. The stress always seemed to eat through her like acid. Devyn could feel his eyes on her, dragging over her face. That's when she spoke. The words came out in a ramble, her eyes had finally met his, trying to gauge his reaction...and it was what she expected. His voice was stern and to the point, reminding her of that evening again. "You'd be dead," she stated simply. "I wouldn't have been able to live with that." Who could? He was right, though. She hadn't been in any kind of state to run headfirst into a situation like that. Devyn looked down to her hands again. She felt a blush spreading over her cheeks. It could have been because she was sober, but she doubted it. When his hand reached out and took hers, her blue eyes found his again. "I don't listen very well." She still felt odd when he thanked her. Merlin, what a horrid, eventful birthday. "I'd do it again..." she grinned slightly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. He was warm, whereas, she was always cold. "Are you sure you don't need anything?"

She'd stayed here. On top of everything? He watched her, trying to take in her features, understand what she was thinking. "I don't listen very well either, I think." He did after all, leave her when she told him not to. A half-smile took over his face. He was slightly irritated with her for coming after him. Purely because she risked her life for him. A question bubbled to the surface. "Why'd you come after me?" She owed him nothing, he was someone she knew for moments. There was no reason for her to potentially kill herself to make certain he was one of the survivors of this war. He shook his head, knowing he didn't need anything. Everyone's done enough. He was alive, she was alright. And he would make absolutely sure everyone he knew was alright. Riley smiled at her, "Know when I can bust out of here?" He really didn't like being confined to this bed. Instead choosing to confine himself to the seats in the library. It was an exciting life he leads.

Devyn pulled the blanket around her shoulders tighter, commending herself on hiding the gash on her head. It'd heal. "Good point. I didn't want you to leave me and you did," she grinned slightly. "The wise Ravenclaw with the bravery of a Gryffindor..." Devyn mused. The grin slowly faded as she heard his question, causing her to look away...again. His gaze was so demanding, she didn't even think he realized it. "You...kept me from doing some stupid things last night...and you didn't even know it. Well, aside from running into a heard of Death Eaters. I think that tops out," she murmured. "And whether I knew you for five minutes or five years...I wasn't going to let them kill you. You were so quick to protect me. When you didn't come back, I knew something had happened. I took my chances, but I don't regret it. You're here...your friends are here because of you...it all worked out." Devyn nodded to herself slightly, adjusting the blanket again. She just couldn't get warm and she figured it was a form of shock. When he smiled, the corners of her mouth involuntarily twitched upwards. "So eager to leave and get back to school?" Standing up, she took the blanket off, placing it the chair. Crossing her arms, she glanced back at him. "I'm gonna go find the nurse...ask her when I can bust you out of here." And that's what she did...well, tried to do. The other nurses had their hands full, that's for sure. Seeing all the bodies (alive and...deceased) was a bit sickening. She was sure her face had paled three shades by the time she got back to his bed. "Whenever you feel well enough...but you have to rest." Dev shrugged her shoulders, grinning.
